Le Bistrot - Quality French food! (2 visits)

Looking for unpretentious, quality, yummy and affordable French food with a good ambience? Le Bistrot is exactly what you're looking for!

I'd recommend dinner because the wonderful wind at night at the Stadium Waterfront is sooo relaxing and nice! Great change from the hot weather on normal days! The restaurant itself is also really pretty as you'd see from the photos below

Follow the signs and park at Carpark E if you're driving, else drop at Stadium MRT station! Heads up: their menu's a Prix Fixe menu ie you choose from the menu they give and they charge you depending on the no. of courses you eat. This is for both lunch and dinner. Dont worry, they have a "specials" menu which changes (not sure how frequently!) so its not just from the menu!

Entree + Main $50
Main + Dessert $50
Entree, Main, Dessert $60
Ala carte: Entree $18, Main $40, Dessert $18

Visit 1:

Poor Man's Caviar
verrine of eggplant, garlic puree, chicken liver mousse and Pernod creme fraiche, served with chargrilled bread

Looks dubious? But this is reallyyyy the star of the show!! MUST-TRY! The creme is so yummy, slightly sour-ish, and just goes so well with the other layers! You must try this dish to know what I'm talking about. The flavours blend together so nicely and its awesome with the bread they provide!! Am craving for a jar of that now, sighz 5/5

Bread with balsamic vinegar + olive oil

Complimentary bread is crusty and warm, but doesnt go as well with the Poor Man's Caviar as the bread that they serve along w the "caviar"

Saumon a l'Unilateral et sa Soupe a l'Encre de Seiche
Pan-seared salmon fillet (served rare in the centre) with squid ink veloute and spinach fondant

LOOK AT HOW PINK RARE AND INVITING that slab of salmon looks!!! Its done wonderfully, so soft, so melt-in-your-mouth and its a REALLY HUGE SLAB! The squid ink sauce goes very well with the salmon, slightly saltish and has a depth of flavour that I cant really describe. Its not too thick so, yup. They'll pour part of the sauce (that comes in a small conical flask) onto your fish when they serve the plate and its up to you whether you want to pour the rest or not!

I loved the sauce so much I finished every drop of it! The spinach fondant is reallyyyy creative I'd say! Never tried anything like this before! Its dense, but not in a jialat way, very fluffy and quite light actually! Spinach taste isnt vvv strong, so great way to make people eat their greens! (: 4.8/5

 Confit de Cuisses de Canard
Duck leg confit with honey-mustard vinaigrette and creamy potato puree

Since when do you get 2 pieces of duck for duck confit? No right? But at Le Bistrot, you get 2 big slabs! Totally worth your money right! The skin, as you can see, is wonderfully crispy and crackly, the meat - soft and tender. YUM in a bite! 4.8/5

Tarte au Citron
lemon tart with raspberry coulis, pineapple tuille and vanilla bean ice cream

The tart didnt really have a strong tangy lemon taste, would prefer it to be a little more sour. Pineapple tuille was like dried pineapple in a really thinnnn form which I liked. Vanilla bean ice cream - creamy goodness with specks of vanilla! Nonetheless, not a bad rendition of the lemon tart 4/5

Nougat Glace aux Noisettes
frozen parfait of hazelnut praline and honey with a feuilles de brick pastry "cigarello" of Gianduja and candied orange peel

The pastry and Gianduja part of the description is referring to the "cigar" like thing at the top - its basically pastry with chocolate inside! Quite yummy I'd say! The boy didnt really like the frozen parfait because it got really jialat towards the end! Too big and too monotonous :/ 3/5

Creme Brulee
Choose 3 flavours: bourbon vanilla bean, amaretto-griottine, Earl Grey tea, mocha, dark chocolate, pistachio-raspberry

We chose vanilla bean, Earl Grey and pistachio-raspberry and myyyy, the first 2 are SO fragrant and soooooo delicious!! Finished every last scoop of it despite a really heavy meal prior to this! (Yes us being gluttons ordered another ala carte dessert)

I dont like pistachio so I didnt enjoy that at all sorry! Else I'd say 4.7/5

Visit 2:

Poor Man's Caviar

Yup its so yummy, I had to have it again!

Oignon Farci aux Noix de Saint-Jacques Grillees et son Veloute de Mais +$8
chargrilled Hokkaido scallops served in a salt-baked onion, with a corn veloute and toasted pinenuts

The brown thing you see there amidst the corn veloute is the onion! Huge one really. And in + on top of the onion is the scallops! Generous portions of scallops, wonderful sauce to go with too! 4.6/5

Coq au Vin, Carottes Persillees, Gratin de Risotto d'Orge Perle
red wine braised chicken leg served with herbed baby carrots, and a pearl barley risotto of fennel and mushrooms, lightly gratinated with cheese

I love the risotto! Fresh change from the usual creamy ones. The chicken leg was just alright though. Mom couldnt finish it cos it was such a huge portion! 4/5

This was a spcial of the day - a pork dish!

Parents commented that the pork was really tender, flavourful and yummy! Sorry I forgot the name of the dish! 4.6/5

Salmon with squid ink veloute!

Look at that pink-ish insides peaking out at you! Dont you just want to sink your teeth in it? 5/5

L'Imperial +$12
fruit soup of macerated wild strawberries, mango-passionfruit sorbet and pink peppercorns, topped with champagne

The sorbet was a refreshing end to the meal the champagne was good but I'd recommend finishing the champagne quickly else room temp champagne isnt very appetising haha.

Grand Chocolat Chaud du Bistrot +$8
Le Bistrot's signature Hot Chocolate: molten 72% dark chocolate couverture, steamed milk and Virgin Islands dark rum, served with a chocolate ice cream profiterole and assorted macarons

Their macarons are rather yummy! Crispy shell, not too sweet. It was really messy when we ate the profiterole cos the ice cream was melting and it was quite hard to "cut" the profiterole up! Overall - okay-ish for the profiterole only. The hot chocolate was good cos basically you mix in what you want! Loved the quality dark chocolate they used and how rich it was! Mmm~ I'd recommend sharing this though! Quite heavy for 1 person. 4/5

Creme Brulee
We chose vanilla bean, mocha and dark chocolate this time

Mocha is REALLY BITTER, so yea didnt really like it. Vanilla bean was awesome as always. Dark chocolate was okay only!

The service is really goooood, waiters are super friendly and funny as well! They frequently top up your water, are v attentive as well! The restaurant is so pretty and the walk outside the restaurant after a meal with your loved one(s) is a wonderful change to the hot balmy weather on normal days! The food is definitely above average and value for money as seen from the huge portions! Really recommend a trip down now if you havent tried it yet!

Restaurant Oversea & Tom's Palette

Firstly, THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE! For reading my blog (: Really happy to have 19, 000+ visitors since I started my blog on 30th June! That's just 1 month and 9 days ago! (: Huge huge thank you to y'all! Really appreciate it! I'll be posting much more after my A levels! But for now, I'll try my best okay! (:

Have been craving for ice cream and luckily my parents decided to go to Restaurant Oversea today for dinner! Tom's Palette, luckily, is situated there so FAV ICE CREAM HERE I COME!!

Apple Pie + Chocolate Sorbet

Love how dark, rich and smooth their choc sorbet is!!! One of my favs @ Tom's! Decided to try Apple Pie today, love the cinnamon taste and there are real apple chunks!! But word of caution, dont order them together cos choc sorbet will overpower apple pie!! No more cinnamon taste, sadly :(

Mom tried coffee + rum&raisin, ohmyyyy coffee is really POTENT and strong!!!

Dad tried choc stout + salted egg yolk. Salted egg yolk is also one of my favs @ Tom's! Just love how unique it tastes! Savoryyyy and ohsoyummy (:

Other favs include: red wine sorbet (once a yr flavour during their anniversary in Sept) for its super strong red wine taste and salted yuzu for its totally perk-me-up taste! Love Tom's Palette!

1 whole can of abalone - $250

We decided to eat this Mexican abalone and there were sooo many pieces!! It looks really a lot but below the heap of abalone is cabbage and jellyfish so yea its not a whole heap of abalone. Hmm it wasnt hard but slightly "crispy", not bad I'd say? 4/5

Signature Siu Yok (char siew) - $20 (small)

Now this was v good in Mom's opinion! She says it almost melts in your mouth but laments that there isnt enough fat in it to make it reallyyyy yummy like the good ol' days. Waiter says in Spore, if its fat, nobody wants to eat it (last time when customer saw a lot of fat in it they sent it back to the kitchen) so in Spore they use higher lean meat to fat ratio for their char siew! We pre-ordered this and I'd recommend doing so when making your reservations, which I also recommend cos the restaurant was full I think! The char siew runs out really quickly so yea, pre-order! 4.6/5

Duck skin, duck meat, fried veg patty, bun

This is called "kao su fang" if anyone knows this dish! The waiter was so surprised we know this name 'cos he thought Spore doesnt have this dish but actually back when I was still in pri sch, my family used to frequent this restaurant called Yun Nan Yuan at IMM where they had the most yummy kao su fang (its like a veg version of peking duck). This one is a diff one, the Yun Nan Yuan one's a fried fu pi juan but this one is like a veg patty! Anw didnt really eat it cos uh dieting haha but parents said its not bad! And gave 3.8/5

Braised Homemade Beancurd with Petola (added cabbage for $5)

We wanted some veg in our meal so the waiter suggested adding veg for $5 and we chose to add cabbage. The tofu was sooooo silky, smooth and had a rather strong taste of soya bean (a lil bit like eating tao huay haha) which was yummy for us! The tofus are HUGE btw! 4.3/5

Steamed Grass Carp

We specifically asked for the belly part cos thats the super soft and yummy part of the fish!!! This was a piece of soft, fatty (in a good way not jialat dont worry) slab of fish!!! Mmmmmmm~~ All of us loved this fish!! Rmb to ask for the belly part k! 5/5

Oversea Fried Rice

Mom loved this cos of the wok hei! She said the rice was v fragrant cos of the soya sauce hahaha as funny as it may sound! And there were pieces of a little bit charred rice (not that charred till they're chao ta) such that they gave a crispy crunchy texture to the rice (dad thought it was crispy pork lard!)! 4.5/5

Service was really friendly and good too! People are quite funny as well. The Malaysian servers know their stuff better so it'd be better to ask for them when ordering dishes! Pretty easy to spot (those in suits)!

Oh and I must say, Shaw Towers is such a good place for diff types of cuisine in true blue Singapore style haha. You have Thai - Ah Loy Thai (v crowded!), Western - Heirloom & Caramel + Roma's Deli, Chi - Restaurant Oversea, Turkish - Sofra Turkish, Jap - some random Jap restaurant and many others!!

Group Therapy Coffee

Having read about how great their waffles are, I decided to bring the boy down to try out their waffles! We headed down after our meal at Novus! Haha foodies we are (Y)

The shopfront of GT

Sign that greets you when you enter. Its upstairs btw. Find Etna and you'd find them!

Belgium Waffles with Maple Syrup

To me, I felt that the waffles werent crispy enough :X Though I must say that there were some parts of the waffle (esp the edges) that was crispy. Inside, it was fluffy but not light enough. There wasnt a "waffle aroma" when it was served, a smell I usually associate waffles with.  Although overall this was certainly not a bad waffle! We asked for more maple syrup because the maple syrup they use is really yummy~ Thick luscious and rich, goes wonderfully well with the waffles! I prefer Laurent Bernard's waffle though! 4/5

The people are really friendly!! The boy wanted to try their rosti but they only have it for Sunday brunch so one of the owners (I presume) told us to come back and try out the rosti soon! Which we certainly will, along with the much-raved carrot cake! I want to try their pancakes too! And the squid ink ravioli ;) we'll definitely be back, GT!

I really love the vibe of their cafe, laidback, the aircon temperature isnt too cold either haha, and the sofas are so comfy!! Really good place to laze the afternoon away! Oh and I like the music they play too!

Basilico Sunday Brunch Revisited

Basilico has been high up on my buffet list ever since I tried them last year and I decided to recommend it to the best friend!

We had a really good seat, a quiet corner of the restaurant with the sun! Love how relaxing the Regent feels! And it smells really good too haha!

Foie Gras with Truffle Risotto

First thing we attacked? The foie gras! Yes they have a foie gras station and look at the PORTION. So much bigger than Melt's/Triple 3's which are really miserable portions about hmm 1/3 the size of this?? Now this is what I call worth your money! The risotto was yummy too! Though the truffle aroma wasnt as strong as I'd like it to be! Overall, I LOVE FOIE GRAS! Oh and the foie gras "station" has a room to itself, its behind the dessert area, if you dont know where it is just ask the friendly staff and they'd show you the way! They also have manyyyy different types of cheese and honey in that room, so if you're a cheese lover, you're in for a real treat! 4.6/5

Lobster, king crab, mussels, prawn, parma ham + rock melon, burrata cheese, asparagus, cherry tomatoes

The king crab was reallyyyyy sweet!! Tomatoes too! Love burrata cheese, so (: Parma ham went well with the sweet melon, lobster wasnt v sweet though! Didnt really like the prawns, mussels were ok. They have a salad bar section, many diff types of tomatoes + cheese, many types of hams/salami, they have jamon as well!

Now this was YUMMY!!! Must-try really!

Focaccia with mascarpone cheese and truffle

THE TRUFFLE AROMA IS THE BOMBBB! They drizzle truffle oil on top of the bread so yup its really aromatic! And in between the focaccia is a thin layer of mascarpone cheese studded with truffles, yummmmmm~~ Melting goodness of the cheese coupled with aroma of the truffles with a soft slightly wood-charred bread, heaven! The best friend and I loved this a lot and asked for more, as you'll see below! (: They'll bring this to your table asking if you want it or not

This time we asked for foie gras only and they gave us 2 huge slabs with truffles!! YUMMEHHHH~~ Hehe foie gras!!!!

Lamb rack, king crab, cod fish, salmon

The lamb rack is still as good as I remember!! No strong "smelly" lamb taste (the best friend cant stand it but she thinks the lamb here's really good and that speaks volumes huh), the meat is sooooo tender and done JUST NICELY, slightly undercooked to give it that slight chewy, tender texture! The cod and salmon were okay-ish only

Lobster Bisque

An okay rendition

Pizza bread, Focaccia with mascarpone & truffle, sole fish, cherry tomatoes

The pizza bread was placed together with the breads (not at the pizza section) and I thought it was quite good because its light and airy plus has just enough of the spices to make it yummy! Sole fish was okay only.

Pizza with prawn and cherry tomatoes

This was ok only cos the dough was a little thick. There are about 4/5 diff types of pizzas, 4/5 types of pastas, they have wagyu rump, grilled chicken, grilled pork, pork belly, meatballs, mixed seafood,  grilled vegetables, lamb stew, chicken stew etc just that we didnt take them!

Pastry with hazelnut filling, apricot tart, berry crumble

Apricot tart was good! The tart base was not the crumbly sort, a little firm but still, I liked it! I only like the berry part of the crumble though

Pastry with hazelnut filling

This was like eating a HUGE FERROR ROCHER!!! Super yummy!!!! The filling isnt overly sweet, and the pastry ohmy, crispy, flakey buttery goodness!!!

Cake with fruits, lemon macaron, coffee choux pastry

I really loved the cake with fruits! Its like a shortbread kind of cake, with a biscuit base, a very crumbly and buttery cake with many different types of fruits on it! Dont bother about the choux pastry because it turned soggy from the cream inside and aint worth your stomach space!

The lemon macaron was SO good! Not annoyingly sweet, crispy shell though a little soft, and just enough lemon to make you go "I like this!"

Plate 2: Apricot tart, sesame crackers, cake with fruits, lemon macaron

The sesame cracker wasnt nice

Oh we had the Lime sorbet which was soooo sour but good after a heavy meal, the sweet wine gelato which initially tastes a little weird but after awhile it grows on you! Its like a sake gelato haha. There were other desserts like chocolate truffles, chocolate/raspberry macarons, vanilla/chocolate/espresso/raspberry gelato, tiramisu, chocolate mousse, meringue cookies, panna cotta, some weird desserts I've never seen before, red wine pears, chocolate zabaglione, etc!

There is also free flow of juices/coffee/tea so yup! We saw Patricia Mok filming there as well! Haha. She looks exactly like how she is on TV. Really love the ambience of Basilico, great great place to have Sunday Brunch! Advance bookings are a must because they are usually full house during Sunday Brunch!

The price now has increased since I last came, but I do not mind the increase in price because previously there werent truffles in the buffet neither were the foie gras portions as big (though still bigger than Melt/Triple 3)

We both felt that though the variety wasnt HUGE, the quality of the food was consistent and good!! She says she'll bring her family here the next time round. So yup, wonderful place for Sunday Brunch if you're an Italian food lover!
