Have been wanting to try Rose Veranda for the longest longest time and finally a chance presented itself! Actually it took me so long because I've been wanting to go on a weekday so I can take my time and just laze the entire afternoon away chilling but weekdays like that are hard to find so weekends it was!
The Rose Veranda is situated above the lobby and you have to climb a flight of stairs from the lobby in order to reach it ("good" pre-nomming workout)
The tables/seats are quite okay, a tiny bit low for my liking. I don't like low tables because then you're bending over while you eat so you feel full faster and its quite uncomfortable on the tummy. I don't like sofa seats because there's no proper backing for your back unless there are cushions! (Quite anal I know)
So anyway you're presented with the tea menu consisting of so so SO many (okay 100ish) teas that you go crazy trying to decide what to drink. Don't worry, there's a recommended teas page so you can choose from there! And the teas have descriptions below their names so it'll be good to read those as well!
After choosing our teas, we were served this tomato soup (chilled) that was not bad!
We were also served ice lemon tea that was just the right amount of sweetness :)
The layout
Desserts on the shelves and the following are photos of the spread:
Ice creams w toppings + kuehs + desserts
Assorted cakes/small desserts
The other shelf of desserts
Chocolate cake w crispy base
The chocolate cake pictured here is REALLY yummy! The best dessert that day. Crispy base (always a love) + dark smooth decadent mousse, YUM :) Note though that its dark chocolate so if you don't like, then you probably won't like this! We all wanted seconds and more!
The chocolate cake here was okay, not as good as the one above cos the crispy layer isn't really that crispy and its quite scattered throughout.
I didn't see anyone touch this station haha
Hot food!
DIY Laksa station
Salads/appetisers
Sandwiches!
Spring rolls x curry puffs
Sushi x sashimi
Now onto some of what I had! The salmon sashimi was as it should be. Tuna was tasteless
From left (9 o'clock) in clockwise direction (all the following photos will be described in this direction)
Thai Mango salad: not spicy, good level of sour + refreshing
Seafood salad: I really loved this! Took many many servings of this. Refreshing fresh and crunchy
Beans/mushrooms/asparagus: all as it should be
Rosemary ciabatta with greenland shrimp, dill, cucumber and lettuce: think this was okay, bread a bit too hard
Macaron not good, not substantial and too crispy
More of the seafood salad
Braised veggies: normal
Siew mai: too porky for me and a bit sticky
Curry fish: okay
Fruit tart: everything was normal as a tart should be but not something I would eat over and over
Mixed berries shortcake: the cake is not light enough for me, taste was okay
Scone with strawberry jam: was quite a good scone
Chocolate cake: don't be mistaken! Its not a molten lava cake. Its more of brownie. A bit dry for me
I think this is chocolate mouse not sure and I think it had a crispy base but not as nice as the chocolate cake w crispy base I mentioned in the photos of the spread way above!
Green tea puff: not strong green tea taste and puff was not crispy/soft kind
My friend's plate!
She really liked the green tea truffle!
Complimentary birthday cake for me! The wait staff sang a birthday song for me as well :) Crispy base + chocolate mousse! Great combi :)
Service was okay. Splotchy and we had to get them to clear our plates/add water etc. Some were v friendly and smiley, some were quite attitude. Ambience is good with lots of natural light! Spread was okay but desserts which are my love were a total letdown!!! Didn't like it at all except for the choc cake. Really quite disappointed amidst all the good reviews about this place :/
