Tippling Club - Super unique experience!

Hi everyone!

I actually visited Tippling Club in March this year back before I started this blog but I thought y'all should read about it because the food they serve is really v unique and its really an experience dining there! To me, it was a wonderful experience! We took the Gourmand Menu w/o wine pairing ($240++) and my dad took the one with pairing ($390++)

Napkin with The Tippling Club logo

 Vichyssoise
(FYI: its a thick soup made of pureed leeks, onions, potatoes, cream and chicken stock)

Now this was really interesting! Firstly: how you drink it (look at pic below) and secondly, the taste! I've never had such a soup before and it went really well with the salty caviar! 4/5

I'm sorry but I cant really remember what this is!! Think this was the amuse bouche!

Pepper Embers

Charred peppers (capsicums I think they should be) with this miso-like sauce, it was really interesting to eat it with those forceps instead of chopsticks/forks/normal cutlery haha. Its like calamari but nicer 4/5

Tomato Martini

Escabeche Chromotherapy
Gazpacho of Heirloom Tomato

Hi Mami
Junmai Daiginjo, Umeshu, Citrus and honey water

All of us really loved this creation!! Slightly sweet and good~

Kaisui Uni
Yuzu Gel, fried cauliflower, uni and yuzu roll

The orange stuff are uni if I remember correctly, and they were the SWEETEST I've ever tasted! Wins Tatsuya/Shinji/Aoki/Kuriya Penthouse! Chef Ryan Clift told us about the unis and said that these unis were imported from Japan and they only removed the shells after they reached Singapore, and these are called Grade A uni. Also loved the tang of the yuzu gel and yuzu roll! Really appetising! 4.9/5

Foie Gras Apple
Foie Gras mousse, spiced gaufrette biscuit and granny smith apples done in a variety of ways

This was foie gras mousse which went really well with the crispy cracker above it (the twirled brown thing). I also love the dehydrated apples! The apple sponge (white thing) was soft and had hints of the sour apple, the powder's 8 spice powder which was a nice touch! The green blobs are apple puree

Scrumpy Fizz
Calvados, Italian Liquers, Citrus, Apple Sorbet and Apple Cider

Pigeon with pea & green curry tofu, celery, coconut foam, puffed wild rice and thai herbs

This meat was really soft and tender! Love how they execute their meats here! The coconut foam had a definite coconutty taste to it, loved it as well! The green curry taste wasnt v strong though!

Wine: Bax Beet Pinot
Mixture of 2 types of beetroot juice, Amaro bitters from Bologna and lemon juice

Vegetable Garden

The brown stuff are porcini mushroom soil! I remember loving the earthy flavours of this dish! Love mushrooms you see 4.3/5

Venison with yoghurt, beetroot and red wine quinoa

The venison was mmmm~ soft and tender! Everyone loved it! The red wine taste wasnt v strong in the quinoa though!

False Risotto
Apple, blue cheese and celery

Jerry Thomas Brandy Punch Part 1
Compressed watermelon, raspberry sorbet and dehydrated strawberries, raspberries, mandarin orange and mango

Love love LOVE the dehydrated stuff!! They're like dried fruits but much better because the texture's so amazing~

Chocolate Nose
Mint tea bourbon, mole bitters, fresh ristretto, chocolate & mint atomisation

I remember this being yummy too! Definitely tasted like chocolate but with a good mix of flavours! The cup isnt a flat cup, it has a rounded base!

Death by Chocolate
Chocolate sponge and mint jelly

LOVE the chocolate sponge!! If I remember correctly there were nutty bits inside and the chocolate was dark and smooth, sexy much~

Knickerbocker Glory

This was the birthday cake with compliments from Chef Clift!

Chef Ryan Clift is really a funny and nice guy, he's extremely unique I think! He's really serious about his food and he knows extremely lots of knowledge about his ingredients! He sources his ingredients from Japan/France etc all over the world! He has friends at those places whom he sources from and we went after the tsunami hit Japan, and he told us that he was there the day it hit! But luckily nothing happened to him. He sent us off and even took a photo with me! Haha it was really funny because the kitchen's an open concept kitchen so from where we were standing, the kitchen staff could be seen so he told them to bend down/hide so they wouldnt be in the picture (:

Overall, I'd really recommend yall to go have a try at their food because its a really really unique experience!! You'd be amazed at how many different ways food can be prepared and blown away by the creativity! Then again, this is the type of food that you either like or dislike. The boys (aka the father + the boy) didnt really enjoy it because they werent exactly full after the meal haha but the girls (aka me and my cousin) loved it because we really like the creativity and how they brought out the flavours of each ingredients. The mom just doesnt fancy all types of Western cuisine haha. I'd love to go back to try their new dishes!! Cant wait to be surprised and have a wonderful culinary experience once again!

Meat Haven Restaurant - Durian Fondant!

Hello! Finally found a goooood restaurant near my house (: Am so happy about that!! Decided to try out the restaurant after reading good reviews on HGW.

Mushroom Soup

Mom said the garlic bread was really crispy and nice, and the soup was not bad as well 3.6/5

Gold-lipped mussels in white wine

Now these came by the dozen and they were really huge and fresh!!! Yummyyyy! 4.2/5

Roasted Kurobuta Pork Belly

Mom had this and she said that the pork belly was really good! Not too fat/too skinny, and really good texture! She loved the potatoes on the side as well! 4.3/5

Seafood Bouillabaisse with cous cous

THIS IS SUPERDUPER value for money I tell you! There were 3 HUGE prawns in it, and like 4 smaller prawns, 2 mussels, numerous squid rings + clams!!! Most amount of seafood I've had so far! I've tried this in Arbite and Vineyard@Hortpark and this one wins both hands down in terms of ingredients! The broth is definitely v fragrant as well! Yummy saffron and the taste of the sea~ Definitely recommended! Finished every last drop of the bouillabaisse (: 5/5

Pan-roasted Duck

Now my dad has been looking for this dish in many restaurants because restaurants usually serve duck confit haha. Both the parents said this was quite a good rendition! The duck meat's soft and flavourful! The yellow stuff below is some mash, like pumpkin? Couldnt really tell exactly what 'cept its sweet! (in a good way) 4.5/5

DURIAN FONDANT with vanilla ice cream

Now this, is GENIUS haha. I bet they know Singaporeans love durian so they came up w this dessert! Anyway, the durian taste is not v pungent but you can still definitely smell + taste durian! The exterior of the "cake" is crispy but soft and fluffy inside + scoop it along with the flowing durian lava, and you're in heaven (: Wonderful dessert!! And the vanilla ice cream has vanilla bean specks in it, so you know they're using the real stuff (: Would love a stronger durian taste, hence the 4.6! 4.6/5

Rum-soaked cherries w vanilla ice cream

I forgot what rum/alcohol they used but it surely was potent! The taste of the liquor was really mellow but not too bitter either! Just right! Yummy and soft~ I like~ 4.3/5

This meal came up to be $135++ but thats cos my dad ordered red wine + French beer as well, and dishes are around 20+? VERY value for money imo. I'm SO glad this restaurant opened near my place!!!! Gonna go there next time armed w my camera to take more pics and try more yummy food! Hope they do change their menu! Oh and the service there is really good and friendly! (:

Shin Yeh Restaurant

This is a Taiwanese restaurant under the Tung Lok group

Lu Rou Fan

This was not a bad rendition! Though I thought the meat was a little dry. 3.4/5

Seaweed in Vinegar appetiser

I thought this was really appetising! Haha. Anyway, every table has this and I finished it :X 4.5/5

Kampong Chicken

Rather average dish? 3.5/5

Dried abalone

Uhh didnt think theirs was nice because the abalone was still a little too hard and it didnt soak up the flavours of the sauce 3/5

Fried oysters

Mom said this was quite yucky for her because the oysters were only half-cooked 2/5

Vegetable dish

Average vegetable dish you'd expect from a chi restaurant

Crab cooked with chinese herbs!

This wasnt sweet sadly :( Not flavourful as well! :( 3/5

Peanut mochi

With compliments from the restaurant. Parents said it was really nice!

Overall, I think this restaurant had more misses than hits though the service was definitely good. Wouldnt be yearning to go back again.

Shin Yeh

Spizza (Jalan Kayu)

Hi! Sorry for being MIA for so long! Having exams you see (: Anyway parents and I went to Spizza for a quick meal the other weekend and here's what we had!

 Quinta
Tomato, Mozzarella, Egg, Black Truffle Sauce

Now this was one good pizza!! Firstly I must say I love the thin crispy crunchy crust of the pizzas at Spizza! The smell of the black truffle was definite but the taste wasnt overwhelming. Cant really taste the egg when you eat the pizza though! Loved the smell of the black truffle sauce! (: 4.3/5

 Spinaci E Funghi
White pizza topped with Italian Cheeses (Mozzarella, Taleggio & Scamorza), Plum Tomatoes, Spinach, Chanterelle, Porcini & Black Trumpet Mushrooms

This one was quite disappointing :/ The number of mushrooms was very little and they kinda didnt have much taste. The tomatoes tasted like normal tomatoes to me. 3/5

Augusto
Thinly sliced Parma Ham and Rock Melon

This was an average dish done well I'd say? Almost every table had a plate of this. The melon was sweet which went well with the salty parma ham. 3.5/5

Crispy Chicken Wings with Arrabbiata Sauce

The parents and the boy said that this was just an average dish, dont think yall should order it! 3/5

Ravioli
Ravioli filled with ricotta & spinach in tomato sauce

The parents said this wasnt too bad, average-y dish as well and said that you've gotta eat the ravioli w the sauce otherwise it'd taste rather bland. 3/5

Linguine with Italian Spicy Pork and tomato

Dont worry if you dont think spicy food because this wasnt spicy at all!! Except for the pork balls which were a little spicy. Generous serving of the pork balls I'd say though this was also an average dish as well 3/5

Linguine with carbonara

This was also an average dish according to the boy though as you can tell, quite a lot of bacon strips were given! I'd go for La Strada's carbonara any dayyyy (: 3/5

I took a picture of this because I thought it was quite funny how they have a "no pregnant woman" sign for a beer bottle haha. Italian beer for you.

I'd say Spizza is a good neighbourhood place for yummy pizzas and average pastas. The thin crusts are really quite good here and they get packed on Sat nights though the table turnovers are quite fast! Also they stated at least 20mins for their pizzas but ours took about 10mins?
