FFT (III)

Hi everyone!

I've eaten at FFT 3 times and I must say they have yet to disappoint me!

Visit 1:
Duo of pancakes with banana & walnuts

Read many reviews about their pancakes so I decided my first visit would be to try them and I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! Their pancakes are a joy to eat, fluffy and not too thick (unlike Wild Honey). The fresh cream was very very fragrant and light (I'm usually not a fan of creams) and I slathered the pancakes with the cream and finished the whole serving! I didnt really like the gula melaka syrup that came along with it as well cos I felt that it was a tad too sweet 4.3/5

Passionfruit Cheesecake

The first few bites were a joy because the sourness of the passionfruit managed to balance out the creaminess of the cream cheese (as you probably can tell, there was uh quite a lot judging from how thick/tall the slice of cake it). However, after a few more bites, the creaminess overpowered the sourness and eventually became really jia lat (a bit too much) and we decided that we couldnt take it anymore and did not finish this cheesecake :/ 3/5

This was great!!! Ferrero Rocher Cake

It was like eating a giant Ferrero Rocher!!! the layer with the hazelnuts and the crunchy parts were super enjoyable, and the chocolate cake was moist. However I felt that the ganache layer on the outside could have been a little thinner? Cos it does get a bit too much after awhile. Nonetheless, great awesome cake! 4/5

Visit 2:
Earl Grey Milkshake

The taste of earl grey was really distinct, earl grey lovers, PLEASE ORDER THIS!! I loved it (: 4.3/5

Basil Almond Pesto Chicken Linguine

The boy's linguine was cooked perfectly al dente and the pesto sauce was of just the right amount! The taste of the sauce went perfectly with the soft chicken and the roasted tomatoes were a joy to eat! 4/5

Chai Spice Brulee Salmon with smoked red capsicum risotto & mango ginger chutney

I ordered this delightful dish with the salmon cooked perfectly, risotto done al dente as well and the slight smokiness that accompanied the risotto was certainly very much welcomed by my tastebuds! The mango ginger chutney didnt really have much ginger taste but who's complaining! The mangoes were sweet and yummy, went very well with the risotto IMO. 4.3/5

Rustic warm banana cake, with vanilla ice cream & drizzled with butterscotch sauce & walnuts

The boy and I couldnt resist ordering this dessert and we were certainly glad we did!! The banana cake had a definite fragrance to it and the butterscotch sauce was not overwhelmingly sweet! I would've liked the banana cake to be a little more moist though! 3.8/5

After stuffing ourselves with mains and a dessert, I couldnt help myself but order another dessert that I'd been eyeing for quite some time!

Butterscotch Apple & Mixed Berries Crumble

THIS WAS ABSOLUTE HEAVEN!!! There were thick chunks of apples in it coated lightly in cinnamon, baked till perfection and the crumble topping wasn't too much nor too little. The berries were not very sour, so overall the dish was superrrr enjoyable! Especially the huge chunks of apples! And at $10, I felt this was really worth it!! 4.5/5
Visit 3:
Chargrilled Vegetable Sandwich with Aubergine, Red Capsicum & Zucchini
With homemade pickles & choice of side salad/fries (chose salad)

I felt that the bread they gave was a tad too thick and I would have liked it crispier (perhaps I'm too spoilt by the perfectly crispy sandwich breads at Cedele?). The grilled veg was good though. Salad was just average. 3.7/5

Calamari, Prawn & Salmon Risotto

This was great!!! Again, al dente rice and lots of seafood plus a creamy stock! Heaven!!~ 4.3/5

Creme Brulee of the day - Earl Grey

The taste of earl grey was reallyyyyy distinct!! Yummy yummy!! (I love all things earl grey as you probably can tell haha) 4/5

It came with this cute mini muffin that tasted like there was bacon inside! But it was really crumbly so when we ate it, it was reallyyyyy messy with crumbs everywhere!!

FFT is definitely one of the value for money and yummy cafes around! Dont be scared off by the "long waiting time" sign that usually says you've to wait for 40mins or so for a table. Just go in and ask if there's a table available!! Usually, the wait is quite fast or sometimes you dont have to wait at all cos it happens that they have a table for 2 (which is what happened to me before)

Food For Thought

PS. Check their fb if they're closing for the day due to private events which happens rather frequently and they only reserve 50% of their seats on weekends until 12pm so reserve early if you want!

Osteria Mozza

Dinner at Osteria Mozza before Lion King! It's a greattttt musical, please catch it if you havent! You'd be amazed by the costumes and its really hilarious (:

FYI, most restaurants at MBS have a pre-theatre menu for Lion King which starts around 5pm! So yall can go check it out! (:

After placing your orders, the serving staff will come around and give you a choice of 3 breads I think? Sourdough, wholemeal and sth else which I forgot ooops. The wholemeal's really good! Cos its studded with seeds and the texture's not too hard/soft, just nice for me (:

With compliments from the chef

Little Gem Lettuces with asparagus, peas & Pecorino

I felt that this dish was really average, and that they put a little too much of the cheese! There were walnuts in it as well. 2.8/5

Grilled octopus with potatoes, celery & lemon

This was reallyyyyyy salty that day! Sodium overload! And the texture was a little too chewy. Perhaps the chef over-grilled it? 2.5/5

This was grilled sardines with some beans at the bottom. (Sorry cant find the name in their website!)

This was surprisingly good!! Initially I didnt want to order this because I thought it was a little weird eating sardines at such a restaurant, but luckily we did order it in the end! This was the best appetiser that night! The fish was fresh and tender, not overcooked at all. The beans were a delight to eat as well! 3.9/5

Burrata from Puglia with leeks & fett'unta

The cheese had a really mild taste and you have to slowly savour it to taste the aroma of the cheese (it is really quite mild for me). But I think the creaminess is awesome! And it goes really really well with the toasted brioche that came along with it!

After reading many raving reviews about this, I must say I was rather disappointed with it, cos I something with perhaps a stronger cheese taste? But nonetheless, it was rather enjoyable in terms of the creaminess! 3.5/5

Pan roasted pork loin with cranberry beans cooked in soffrito

According to the parents, the pork was really soft and tender + flavourful! They really enjoyed this dish! 4/5

Guinea Hen Crostone with liver pancetta sauce

My mom thought this was a bit too much for her in terms of portion as the meat/liver to bread ratio was quite large. She didnt manage to finish this dish and commented that it wasnt very enjoyable because it wasnt fragrant or anything and it was a tad too salty. Just an average dish. 3.4/5

Grilled Japanese Eggplants with mint & yoghurt

This was quite yummy cept that most parts were charred, think the kitchen could've done a better job in terms of that 3.5/5

Pan roasted sea trout with umbrian lentils and red cabbage sottaceto

Felt that the fish was a tad overcooked and was a little too bland. The stuff at the bottom were average tasting too. Didnt expect such a dish at such a restaurant! 3.2/5

Duck al Mattone with pear mostarda & sweet corn

Everyone agreed that the duck was good, with crispy skin and juicy on the inside. The boy preferred to eat it with the pear mostarda though! He says it makes it taste much nicer! The sweet corns were mixed with some chili I think? But they were really enjoyable! 3.8/5

Vanilla Panna Cotta, mixed berry compote with hazelnut & almond biscotti

THIS WAS VERYVERY GOOD. Easily the star of the night!! You could see the vanilla bean specks studded throughout the panna cotta which was extremely fragrant and of the right texture! The berry compote was not too sour and complimented the panna cotta perfectly. The biscotti was good too. 4.5/5

Cioccolato

The choc cake was really smooth and the taste of the dark chocolate was so divine I tell you! Pure bliss if you're a chocolate lover! Also there were different types of chocolates that came with the cake, and all were great! 4.4/5

To sum it up, I think Osteria Mozza did not impress me as much as I expected it to and I think desserts are definitely their forte instead of their appetisers/main. Perhaps I should try their pastas another time?

But the next visit would probably be to Pizzeria Mozza with more of their desserts in mind!

Japanese Food Day!

Today has been a Jap food filled day! Here goes!

First I had the new Black Sesame Green Tea Frappuccino - no whip cream, non-fat milk from Starbucks. Each sip had the fragrance of the black sesame and the creaminess from the milk + green tea. There was also the distinct crunch from the sesame seeds in each sip! 4/5

Dinner was at Shimbashi Soba @ Paragon.

They recently launched the new Cha Soba only from 1-31st July at their Paragon outlet (the oth outlet's at nex) and it either comes with this soup broth + veg or a special dipping sauce.

The veg broth was a tad too salty, but was alright if you dip the noodles with it (which you're supposed to). The soup came with quite a few slices of mushrooms, spring onions, some eggplants and that's basically it. It was about $18+?

The green tea taste wasn't really distinct in the noodles and I thought the noodles were average only 3/5

Raw chopped salmon with natto, quail egg and seaweed. This was an okay-ish dish, you cant really taste anything? 2.5/5

Mom's set. Came with fried soft shell crab & tofu, salmon sashimi, tamago & unagi sushi (it was supposed to be 2 pieces of unagi only but they told us they ran out of unagi and its replaced by these 2 sushis which I thought was slightly absurd because the cost difference is a little stark?), bowl of cold/hot soba (mom chose hot), and watermelon

Then Mom and I went over the Isetan Scotts and bought Japanese sweet potato!! We're gonna steam them and eat 'em, hopefully we can have what we ate in Japan right here in Singapore!

They were having this small fair selling different types of beans from Japan and Mom bought this scallop one which she thinks is good! One packet's $7!

Then we bought Japanese chestnuts!! They were roasted on the spot and packaged. Most were reallyyyy sweet and fragrant :D Yummy! Couldnt stop eating them!!

Walked over to Ngee Ann City and realised there was a food fair going on - Takashimaya Food Fiesta! Many stalls selling Japanese stuff (dried food, sauces, tea, seaweed, fruits, ice cream, sushi, mochi, Japanese salt, nuts, etc!). There was Juz Bread there selling some durian cream bread, Udders, Meiji, korean food etc!

Look at the hugeass pau!

Super fragrant green tea ice cream from Okinawa! They also had brown sugar, milk, sweet potato (doesnt taste like it at all), etc. But it wasnt cheap, $5.90 for such a small pint! But it was really good, I think! 4/5

The mango snow ice was quite yummy! The ice was fine and the mango was sweet! (: 4/5
